How to Setup WordPress

1. Download software
Download the following software. The version numbers indicated are the one which have been tested by me personally.

2. Install MySQL
You need to create a new login user and a new schema.

3. Install Apache HTTP Server
If you are installing it on Windows make it a service.

4. Install PHP
During the installation make sure you do the following steps:

  • Provide location of Apache server configuration (conf) directory.
  • Include/Install plugin for MySQL.

5. Make MySql visible to Web Server
Copy libmysql.dll from PHP directory to C:\WINDOWS\system32

6. Setup WordPress
Copy/Extract WordPress folders and files as shown below (this assumes that you have chosen to use the default location of Apache web contents).

Apache Software Foundation
  Apache2.2
    htdocs
      BLOGNAME
        wp-admin
        wp-content
        wp-includes

7. Setup Email Server
Modify the php.ini file located in its install directory as indicated below

[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
SMTP = localhost
smtp_port = 25

8. Modify “From Address” for system emails.

Download, install and activate the wp-mailfrom: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mailfrom/
